Taylor Tomasi Hill is, well, a fashion legend. As a street style fixture and veteran in the industry with an expansive career that has led to her current role as fashion and creative director of The Yes , she's a true insider and expert in the field. On that note, she told us she's currently editing her closet, so naturally, we wanted to know more for sartorial inspiration .
"I love a good closet edit session. (Who doesn't?!) You're conquering the world. You're bringing order out of chaos. You're folding tees with a technique that would make Marie Kondo jealous," Tomasi Hill says. "I am pretty ruthless in my editing because I like a small, all-star closet. So after the donations and gifting to friends is done, here's the list of trends I'm keeping and then immediately wearing all summer."
With all of that in mind, keep scrolling to see the items Tomasi Hill is keeping in her closet for summer (complete with fun and playful visual inspiration) and why she's hanging onto them.
On Tomasi Hill: Nili Lotan tank and B Sides jeans. "It doesn't get more 'all-American summer' than a basic white tee or tank and denim. It's always been in style; it will always be in style. And the best part is that it's a look that's really as unique as you are—ripped, classic, dark, bleached. For me, I'm loving a minimalistic ribbed tank (think '90s supermodels) and vintage, slouchy denim that's cropped to perfection."
On Tomasi Hill: Ulla Johnson dress. "Why have I been so drawn to high-neck dresses this summer? Maybe because the style is unexpected and adds great balance when you show a lot of leg or go backless. I love the Sylvan Dress from Ulla Johnson. I've heard rumors it's coming in more colors, so I'm checking back daily for black."
On Tomasi Hill: Khaite skirt and Rodarte tee. "It's been the summer of miniskirts. (Thankfully! It's so hot in Texas!) And a lot of people have asked me, 'Should I? Really? What if I look like I'm headed to the club instead of carpool?' My answer is yes, and here's how: Keep it casual. Pair a cool mini (like this travel-perfect nylon one from Khaite) with a tie-dye tee. It's modern and fun but not too young."
On Tomasi Hill: Kule sweater and polo; Solid & Striped skirt; Bottega Veneta bag; Thom Browne flip-flops. "It's not summer without Kule! I've always leaned a little prep—but this summer more than ever thanks to the great amount of tennis skirts, sport-chic rubber accessories, and '00s flip-flops to add to the mix."
On Tomasi Hill: Clare V. jacket and Nili Lotan shorts. "It's Little House on the Prairie via Silver Lake. I love the combination of a granny-chic quilted jacket with all-American denim. It's a look that's about craftsy, handmade vibes with a fashion silhouette."
On Tomasi Hill: Officina del Poggio hat; Marysia swimsuit; Clare V. shorts; Kule bag. "With me, shade is always a trend. I love a great hat for keeping cool and protecting my face from the rays. (Forever young, baby!) Add a chic one-piece and my favorite summery shorts and you've got it made in the shade, literally. Styling tip: The shorts are perfectly baggy, so I like to roll them twice."
On Tomasi Hill: Tonya Hawkes clutch. "Sometimes in the summer, the look is simple. You've got a great dress, a minimalistic sandal—it's beautiful, but if you're suddenly inspired to add something that screams style and statement, there's always a Tonya Hawkes clutch. Iconic for more than a decade, her trunk box bag is like a mini sculpture. I love the graphic snakeskin because it's so much fun."
