Insiders Told Me What They're Wearing for Fashion Month—Here's the Preview

If you’re anything like this editor, you probably look forward to fashion month for the new collections debuting on the runways and the street style unfolding outside the shows. I find both equally inspiring, but the outfits fashion-industry veterans are wearing always have a big impact on how I’m getting dressed. With fashion month upon us, I was curious to get a preview of the showstopping pieces and trends insiders will be wearing this season.

Ahead, some of the best dressed people in fashion are sharing a sneak peek at the cool brands, spring trends, and exact pieces they will be wearing everywhere from New York to Paris to attend the shows for the fall/winter 2023 collections. Looking at their picks, maxi coats, pointed ankle boots, sleek staples, and bold pops of color will be taking over the street style scene this season—shop all of their finds here.

“I do almost all of my shopping on Moda via Trunkshow the season ahead, so by the time February arrives, all of my resort and the beginnings of my spring preorders are already hanging in my closet—it’s a serious stress and time saver. Each season, I like to invest in great updates to the classics that I’ll wear on repeat. At the moment, I’m all about a floor-grazing longline coat, oversize trousers and knits, Khaite’s knee-high boots, and a few of-the-moment statement pieces like maxi skirts, sophisticated cargo pants (who would have thought!), and slinky dresses from young designers such as A.W.A.K.E. Mode, Beare Park, Christopher Esber, and Nensi Dojaka.”
“Fashion month in February is always full of so much uncertainty when it comes to the weather. As a forever Southern girl, I am never sure what the weather will bring, so it’s important for me to always dress appropriately yet always comfortable. With that in mind, it’s always about having a great statement coat (or two), a phenomenal pair of jeans, a standout dress, and a classic pair of boots. These are my essentials for making it through the back-to-back days of a nonstop schedule, as each item offers versatility with styling and allows me to feel put-together without being over-the-top. I especially love this butter-yellow coat by The Row. It’s my signature color, and I truly can’t get enough of it.”
“Foremost, I love being comfortable. With days packed full of shows, appointments, and meetings, I like to always make sure I can conquer the day in an outfit that won’t limit how I move. I like to keep things very classic; I think that makes for a long-lasting wardrobe that’s very interchangeable. For fashion month, I always try and add an unexpected twist or styling update such as this chunky belt from Toteme, which I’ll be wearing over a coat for a cinched waist, or these boots from Paris Texas. I never thought I’d find myself in a wedge boot, but the style is coming back, and I love how sharp and sleek these feel with the point toe and the patent finish. “The majority of my wardrobe for New York Fashion Week will be black. It was a huge trend for spring/summer 2023 and one I have always advocated for, so I am looking forward to challenging myself on how to keep this shade interesting. My new favorite pair of black pants are from recently launched brand High Sport. They combine the polished look of tailored styles with the comfort of leggings—music to my ears! They are crease-free, so I can pack them away in my luggage and never worry about needing to iron them. During fashion month, I’ll be wearing them with sheer socks, a smart loafer, and a shirt. Lastly, bags for fashion month are crucial. You need something really versatile that works for day and night. This clutch by The Row is my current favorite, and I’ll be breaking the rule of never styling black and brown together. Watch me!”
“I think having a sense of humor during fashion month is important. I want to be comfortable and enjoy myself around friends as well. So finding ways to have unexpected proportions, like how Loewe made the balloon heel and inflated leather jacket, is such a fantasy outfit! We also saw some of these voluminous silhouettes and even pillows in Milan at men’s fashion week, so for me, I’ll start the trend now! “In honor of our queen, I’m sourcing vintage Vivienne Westwood. I love looking to James Veloria for her pieces, and their curation for vintage is so incredible there. It’s easy to find something special. Shopping vintage is definitely at the forefront of my mind. “The Glass House is a new women’s ready-to-wear brand that just launched out of Los Angeles made of the most exquisite fabrics. They offer silk blouses, jackets, overalls, and easy products for real life. Think Tilda Swinton in I Am Love. It’s a total dream. I’m so excited to pack the Piccolo Toro black velvet jacket in my suitcase for London, Milan, and Paris! It’s easy to throw on top of a dress or pair with jeans and a T-shirt for day shows or (late-night) parties.”
“I don’t want to jinx it, but it appears like it’s going to be unseasonably warm in NYC during fashion week, meaning that I can actually try out all of the spring trends that I’ve been waiting to test-drive since the runways in September. For starters, the tights-as-pants look will certainly be making an appearance. Though, I’m thinking of dressing it up with this gorgeous velvet peplum jacket (I know, but trust me—it’s good) I got from Liberowe. “I’ll also be trying out the red-tights trend that’s been making the rounds of late in a ‘The Row fall 2022’ way and attempting to give my own spin on Louis Vuitton’s tie-clad looks from the same season, both of which will include a great vintage leather bomber jacket that I secured from my boyfriend’s coat collection. As for specific pieces, I have an off-the-runway strapless top from Proenza Schouler that I’m dying to debut, an Intrecciato Bottega Veneta shoulder bag in the most beautiful burgundy from Rebag that’ll be worn on more than one occasion, and silver metallic pumps from the same brand that I scored on deep discount at some local outlets and will be utilized to dress up an easy jeans look on one of my less busy days. “Overall, I like to have some pieces and general outfit inspiration in mind ahead of fashion week but also give myself permission to stray from it on the actual morning of an event if/when I don’t love what I’m wearing or feel comfortable in it. From my perspective, dressing for occasions like this shouldn’t be much different from what you wear normally—perhaps just a slightly more elevated or experimental version.”
